Powertrain – from conventional to alternative

Alternative or conventional: we develop and validate drive systems for modern vehicles in our Powertrain department. The development of intelligent motor control functions plays a major role in modern, highly efficient combustion engines. Exhaust gas after-treatment is increasingly gaining attention as well.

For the new energy vehicle with a fuel cell or electric drive, the challenge lies in the development of suitable battery and tank systems as well as the integration and validation of the matching charging and fuelling infrastructure. This is the focus of our Alternative Drives Innovation Center.

Electrical/electronic drive technology

The cost and feasibility of electrical/electronic drive system architectures were assessed for an automobile manufacturer. Among other things, the project scope included requirements management and the preparation of performance specifications.

Actuating elements and sensors, the architecture of the high-voltage and low-voltage on-board energy network and function partitioning were among the focal points. Coordination with interfaces in the areas of functional safety, OBD, diagnosis and bus communication was performed as well.

Drive electronics integration and validation

The software for all aspects of drive electronics was validated and released using HiL and on the vehicle as a whole in the course of development. Validation planning, updating and converting the vehicles and test platforms, and free and guided test execution were included in the project scope. Error analysis, problem management and the installation and administration of measuring technology were covered as well.

Hybrid drive applicative support

Errors occurring in the course of testing were analysed and verified for new vehicle models with hybrid drive technology. The required data changes were subsequently reviewed, evaluated and approved in regards to error elimination. New program and data versions were put into operation and evaluated in regards to the application.
